Lean practitioners always expect the annual Lean Transformation Summit by the nonprofit Lean Enterprise Institute (LEI) to deliver lots of practical, how-to information for implementing lean management systems. But the 2015 conference, set for March 4-5 in New Orleans, promises to deliver plenty of inspiration as well.
Margarette Purvis, president and CEO, Food Bank for New York City and Zack Rosenburg, co-founder and CEO, St. Bernard Project, will deliver the opening keynote.
Both nonprofits use lean management principles to develop efficient systems for helping people in need. Food Bank for New York City, the nation’s largest food bank, uses lean concepts, to continuously improve how it delivers one million meals annually. Started after the devastation of Hurricane Katrina, the St. Bernard Project uses lean to help disaster-impacted citizens and communities recover promptly, efficiently, and predictably.

Conference Highlights
In a unique conference format, executives describe their lean continuous improvement strategies during plenary sessions, then company managers and continuous improvement professionals explain the how-to tactics in breakouts sessions.
This year, the conference features a special volunteer day at the Saint Bernard Project in New Orleans. Summit attendees can join LEI staff at a building repair site painting, hanging drywall, and doing other activities.
Conference highlights include workshops, in-depth sessions for building skills and behaviors needed to start or advance a lean transformation, and learning sessions, small interactive classes for learning leading-edge lean methodologies and applications.
Learning session topics include facilitation skills for leading teams, the Green Beret way to develop lean leaders, and designing experiments using lean UX.
Pre-Summit Workshops on March 2nd and 3rd include applying lean principles to sales, creating a lean product development system, implementing strategy deployment, and creating lean HR policies and practices.
