Lean Information Technology Training Directed at Professionals in Continuous Improvement and IT Departments

July 31, 2012

The nonprofit Lean Enterprise Institute (LEI) will present the workshop Lean IT to help companies align information technology practices with lean management efforts. The workshop will run September 18, 2012, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Indianapolis Marriott Downtown in Indianapolis.

Sustainable improvement and innovation in information systems cannot be achieved by technology alone, according to Michael Orzen, workshop facilitator and co-author of Lean IT (Productivity Press, Sept. 2010). He said the lean IT journey depends on continuously improving people, processes, and technology, in that order.

Key topics covered by the workshop include:

• What lean IT is and how it sustains enterprise-wide lean transformation

• How to identify and address information waste

• How IT operational excellence, lean software development, and lean project management contribute to a rapid learning organization

• How IT can leverage strategy deployment and lean management systems to lock in improvements

The full-day workshop is designed to show professionals in both the IT and continuous improvement organizations how the IT team can be a valuable partner in a lean transformation and in creating more value for customers.

Pricing and Discounts

The $800 workshop fee includes tuition, training materials, breakfast, lunch, and snacks. What is Lean?

The terms lean manufacturing, lean production, or lean management refer to a complete business system for organizing and managing product development, operations, suppliers, customer relations, and the overall enterprise. It requires less capital, material, space, time, or human effort to produce products and services with fewer defects to precise customer desires, compared with traditional modern management.

Toyota pioneered lean management as a complete business system after World War II. During the late 1980s, a research team headed by Womack at MIT’s International Motor Vehicle Program coined the term “lean” to describe Toyota’s system.

Lean Community Resources

LEI offers a weekly newsletter with lean management news and resources such as case studies, webinars, interviews with executives on lean leadership, and archives of essays by authors and lean management thought leaders.
