Lean Transformation Summit Reveals “Frontiers and Fundamentals”

January 24, 2011

Cambridge, Mass., Jan. 25, 2011 — Lean management — its essential concepts and latest applications — is the focus of the annual Lean Transformation Summit sponsored by the Lean Enterprise Institute (LEI), March 9-10, 2011, Dallas.

“Summit attendees will learn from companies that are building on fundamental lean principles and pioneering new applications in lean thinking,” said Rachel Regan, LEI director of lean events and community support. “And the Summit design means people learn from both leaders and implementers,” she said.

In plenary sessions, attendees hear executives describe the essential business cases for launching lean transformations. In subsequent breakout sessions, implementers from the same companies provide details about the lean methodologies used, obstacles overcome, and results achieved.

Lean Summit Highlights

  • How Ford Motor Co. is using lean principles in product development and engineering.
  • How Coca-Cola is applying lean thinking to distribution.
  • How Acme Alliance, a small die caster, is applying lean concepts to its extended enterprise even while working internally on lean fundamentals.
  • How Starbucks is applying fundamental lean principles in new ways to core front-line work.
  • Keynote by John Shook, LEI chairman and CEO.
  • Keynote by Jim Womack, LEI founder and senior advisor, who led the original MIT research team that coined the term “lean.”
  • Pre-conference workshops, March 7-8, and conference Learning Sessions will address lean metrics, leadership skills, culture change, kaizen, standardized work, and lean logistics.
