It’s not often that you can find an example of lean thinking and practices directly impacting sales, revenue, and profit. But Karen Gaudet shares just that in this enhanced version of a presentation she delivered as part of the Lean Global Connection virtual event. As Gaudet, the HR and organizational development director and former Starbucks regional director, describes Starbuck’s and her transformation, she shares the “aha” moment.

She explains how the lean thinking approach to leadership and problem-solving uncovered and resolved the problem of a slow-selling sausage breakfast sandwich — and ultimately closed a $2 million revenue gap.

The effort, she says, revealed to her how traditional leadership can exacerbate problems at the frontline and how the lean approach offers a more effective way to resolve issues and lead work teams.
